During the course of our conversations locally, regionally and nationally regarding the effectiveness of treatment options for those struggling specifically with addictions; often the mechanism that is used to justify the status quo comes down to lack of viable credible research to justify significant change.

OSHI’s inception was born from primary research conducted working with those most vulnerable patients during and post, acute alcohol detox from secondary care settings (read the published article ‘here’. This initial one study has led to countless conversations, open doors and minds and multiple new research avenues/projects on the back of this.

We strive to work with our colleagues, associates and fellow citizens at large to collaborate on creating system changing research into championing innovation in treatment and recovery. We’re also keen to support relevant stakeholders in commissioning specific research projects and have a well-established national network of resources to work with.

1) Approach us with an idea for research or established research project.
2) Talk to us about aspirations and project outcomes.
3) Work with us in creating deliverable plan to achieve desired outcomes (utilising our scope/flexibility to effectively source relevant participants for qualitative or quantitative studies).

Context:

  • OSHI Research Team identified developmental opportunity in researching digital solutions to enhance recovery proposition.
  • This was ascertained through feed back/gathering information from clients/staff/volunteers as well as primary research.

Action:

  • Approached suitable funding bodies to ascertain appetite.
  • Networking/liaison with relevant industry specialists.
  • Spoke with various key stakeholders across the spectrum to form a working steering committee.
  • In partnership with several key institutions (a national association, a leading higher education institution, a technology incubator) formed a working plan.

Result:

  • Was successful in obtaining funding to begin R&D into the use of digital plans/applications in enhancing the recovery proposition.
  • A grass-roots/community led initiative with societal need identified as the driving factor through primary research has been born.
  • Excellent opportunity to develop knowledge exchange while in the process ascertaining viability of creating best in class digital solutions to enhance mental well-being in tackling addiction and creatingideal environment for recovery to prosper.
