Yoga is an ancient practice that stimulates all facets of the mind, body and spirit and is the perfect discipline for anyone wanting to quieten their mind, relax their body and stimulate their soul. It has been helping people for centuries to raise and expand their consciousness and find peaceful coexistence with the people and environments around them.
Yoga is a mediative means of discovering ones own dysfunctional perception and cognition, as well as overcoming this to release any suffering and trauma to ultimately find inner peace, salvation and enlightenment. In short; it’s an incredibly good way to unwind and we’d love to see you at one of our sessions
Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. Scholars have found meditation elusive to define, as practices vary both between traditions and within them.
Meditation is practiced in numerous religious traditions. You owe it to yourself to quieten your mind and find that inner peace you have been searching for – it’s freely available! Come and join in.
Exercise & Physical Fitness
The phase “Mutual Aid” was first popularised by Philosopher Peter Kropotkin where he argued that that cooperation was the driving mechanism behind the evolution of the human species rather than competition. This beautiful idea is practised here at OSHI and we actively encourage our clients to explore the multitude of Mutual Aid Groups that are at their disposal. In practice; people that share similar problems come together for the benefit of the community to share their experience, strength and hope in finding better ways to live. Meetings include but are not limited to Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous and SMART Recovery Groups. Check our timetable for more details.
The Psycho-social intervention and support approach looks at individuals in the context of the combined influence that various psychological factors as well as the persons wider family/social environment can have on their physical and mental wellbeing. At OSHI; we aim to offer a range of specific targeted sessions that will seek to challenge people to grow, expand and learn about themselves and how they interact with the people around them. Examples of this include looking at inter-personal relationships, forming healthier coping mechanisms and learning to understand common triggers and how to overcome them.
Music, Rhythm, Vibration; these are all as old as time itself and the human species has a long and rich culture of musical expression. It is commonly accepted that learning a new musical instrument expands the brain and more importantly, enriches the soul! OSHI works with a number of talented individuals that are happy to share their musical gifts with the community through musical events, beginners classes, meditative sessions, south baths, drumming circles, guitar lessons, song writing jams and even an appearance of the fantastical didgeridoo. We’re welcoming all to come and get involved – be it to learn or just to listen! Drum roll please…
Expression of Art
Art is a most subjective topic; it can invoke the spirit and stir the soul. How we see and appreciate art is a uniquely personal experience for each individual. OHSI encourages it’s community to indulge in this all to often overlooked means of expression. Art is art when you say it is; be it abstract, portrait painting, landscape sketching, song writing, poetry, photography impressionism, coloring in, sculpting or even painting by numbers! It really doesn’t matter. The important thing is that we are expressing ourselves and taking part in creating something. There is absolutely no skill level or expectation of specific talent to take part in one of our sessions. Go Create!
Walk & Talk
Walk (or roll!) & Talk therapy is a popular movement and laid back form of therapy that you guessed it, involves walking and talking. It is a mindfulness based body/mind oriented therapy that can make it easier for those taking part to relax, stop obsessing and over thinking things and just enjoy walking and talking, releasing endorphins in the process, learning to relax the body and mind, get to enjoy nature and the great outdoors and hopefully during the process gain some insight into what they are currently going through while also sharing experiences with others.
Cooking on a Budget
This activity does what it says on the tin! Nutrition is fundamental to everything we do and our in house chef will be sharing hes experiences in regular sessions designed to educate and empower people to be able to plan balanced meals, choose the right ingredients and ultimately prepare and cook healthy food on a tight budget. This will include cooking for the season and include trips to to local allotments and community gardens (and even an Urban Farm – Rooted In Hull) to learn about nutrition as well as shopping trips to buy the food together before ultimately cooking and dining as a group. Stone baked pizzas, healing soups, freshly baked bread, home-made take away favorites. Mmm.. I’m hungry!
Peddling for Peace
Pedalling for Peace Without many exceptions, humans need identity and meaningful purpose within a healthy community, in order to thrive not just exist. Pedalling For Peace will mirror these requirements so that those that join us can get a sense of well – being and belonging. Some of the aims for the cycling group is to have fun, improve our general fitness and learn about the local area along the way. Hopefully, what we get from the group we can apply into other areas of our lives so that we can begin to flourish and have a prosperous existence whatever that may be. Please contact Darren if Pedalling for Peace interests you or check out our time table for the next session.
